Publix Joins Medicare Diabetes Program
Publix joins Medicare diabetes program to help with weight management using GLP-1 medications like Wegovy and Foundayo for eligible Medicare Part D beneficiarie
Publix Pharmacy is participating in the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program, allowing eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries to fill qualifying GLP-1 prescriptions for weight management at Publix locations.
The program, launched by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on July 1, runs through December 31, 2027, and covers GLP-1 medications prescribed solely for weight loss or weight management.
Medications Available
Foundayo, Wegovy in injection and tablet form, and Zepbound KwikPen are currently available through the program at Publix.
Customers who are not eligible for the Bridge program may still access covered GLP-1 prescriptions through their Medicare Part D plan.
Similar Steps by Other Pharmacies
Hy-Vee joined the Bridge program earlier this month, and Kroger rolled out GLP-1 savings programs in the spring.
Publix’s participation in the program is similar to steps taken by other grocery pharmacies.
Affordability and Store Resources
For self-pay patients, Publix said its pharmacists can help identify manufacturer savings programs and discount cards that may lower copays to as little as $149.

In February, the Lakeland, Florida-based grocer began offering discount-card pricing on select GLP-1 therapies.
Publix is also tying the pharmacy program to in-store nutrition resources, including a “Create a lifestyle that lasts” brochure and green Better Choice shelf tags.
These shelf tags, developed by Publix registered dietitian nutritionists using the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030, flag items higher in nutrients such as fiber and lower in saturated fat, added sodium and added sugar.
Publix operates more than 1,400 stores across the Southeast and is the largest employee-owned company in the U.S.

By participating in the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program, Publix is providing its customers with more affordable options for weight management medications.
They can be especially beneficial for customers who may not have been able to afford these medications otherwise.
Publix’s program is a good example of how pharmacies can work with manufacturers and government programs to make medications more affordable for customers.
