Lanessa Elrod Named Bergdorf Goodman President
Lanessa Elrod, former Louis Vuitton Americas CEO, is now Bergdorf Goodman’s president, marking a full-circle moment in her career.

Bergdorf Goodman has appointed Lanessa Elrod, former CEO of Louis Vuitton Americas, as its new president, effective Monday. Elrod succeeds Tracy Margolies, who will become an executive adviser at parent company Exemplar Luxury Group, reporting directly to CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck.
Elrod’s return is particularly notable as she has had previous stints at all three of Exemplar’s brands, Bergdorf, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus, making this a “full-circle moment” as she described on LinkedIn. Her extensive experience in luxury retail, including her role as a longtime luxury department store buyer, positions her uniquely to lead Bergdorf Goodman.
Exemplar CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck emphasized that Elrod’s appointment is a strategic move to strengthen Bergdorf’s position in the luxury market. This transition coincides with Bergdorf’s 125th anniversary, showing the brand’s commitment to continuity and institutional memory. Van Raemdonck stated, “Her return marks an important step in advancing our strategic priorities and further strengthening Bergdorf’s position as the pinnacle of luxury.”
Bergdorf has maintained its prestige on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, even as Exemplar, formerly Saks Global, faced significant challenges following its $2.7 billion acquisition of Neiman Marcus. After entering bankruptcy court in January, Saks Global emerged in June as Exemplar Luxury Group, having reduced its debt by approximately 75% to under $1 billion. This financial restructuring has provided a more stable foundation for its brands, including Bergdorf.
Industry experts, such as Michael Appel of Appel Associates, have praised Bergdorf’s resilience. Appel said, “If they ever have to sell an asset, they can sell Bergdorf’s in a minute.” Last year, analysts including Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Retail Equity Analyst Mary Ross Gilbert said they believed Saks Global was seeking a buyer for a 49% stake in Bergdorf Goodman.
Despite its relative stability, Bergdorf was not entirely shielded from Saks Global’s turmoil. Notably, chief merchant Yumi Shin left for Nordstrom after Saks Global abandoned efforts to retain her.
