Albertsons adds new member to its board
Albertsons adds new member to its board with Harmit Singh joining as a new director with financial expertise.

Albertsons has grown its board of directors from 10 members in September to 15 with its latest appointment. The grocery company confirmed Thursday that Harmit Singh, currently Levi Strauss & Co.’s chief financial and growth officer, will join the board immediately.
Singh brings over four decades of global financial, operational, and strategic leadership experience to the board. He currently leads Levi Strauss’ finance division, transformation office, investor relations, and information security, and oversees strategic sourcing, real estate, and franchise expansion.
Albertsons CEO Susan Morris stated that Singh’s track record of accelerating growth and improving business performance will bring valuable perspective to the board. Singh also serves on the boards of Planet Fitness, Inc. and Sutter Health, and has held financial leadership roles at American Express, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
Singh’s appointment comes after Albertsons announced a strategic review to help turn around its sagging financial performance. The company has added several executives to its board, including Meg Whitman, who was named executive chair of the board, and Bill Boltz, executive vice president of merchandising for Lowe’s Companies; Chris Drumgoole, chief operating officer of Aligned Data Centers; and Meg Ham, the former president of Ahold Delhaize USA banner Food Lion, who were added to the board at the end of September.
Whitman stated that the company continues to strengthen its board with capabilities that support Albertsons’ next phase of growth. Singh’s experience improving performance and creating value at complex, consumer-facing companies will be an important asset as the company advances its strategy and strengthens execution.
Singh plans to retire from Levi Strauss on November 30. His appointment to the Albertsons board is effective immediately, and he will join the company as it undergoes its strategic review.
