Roots has completed its transition to private ownership, following an agreement finalized in August to be acquired by Marquee Brands. The retailer announced on Monday that the transaction was finished, marking a shift in the company’s ownership structure. As part of the deal, Meghan Roach stepped down as president and chief executive officer. She will remain with the company in an advisory capacity, a role she expressed confidence in, given her history with the brand since joining as interim CFO in 2019 and becoming CEO in 2020.

Roach departs as Roots closes deal

Roach’s departure comes at a strategic moment, as she stated in a release that the completion of the acquisition provided the right opportunity to step aside. She emphasized her trust in the team’s ability to advance the brand, a sentiment echoed by the company’s confirmation of her continued advisory role. This transition shows a new chapter for Roots, moving away from its public ownership model to support future growth under Marquee Brands.

Brooks reports strong third quarter

Brooks Running celebrated its thirteenth consecutive quarter of revenue growth, a sign of its global expansion and product innovation. The brand’s success in the third quarter was driven by gains in global performance running and U.S. premium performance running footwear. Over the first nine months of the year, Brooks saw a 12% revenue increase across all regions, with particularly notable growth of 24% in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The Americas and Asia-Pacific regions also contributed to this success with 9% growth each.

Categorically, Brooks’ performance was equally impressive, with footwear revenue rising by 11% and apparel by 18%. The company solidified its position as the No. 1 market leader in specialty retail during this period. CEO Dan Sheridan attributed this success to the brand’s global expansion and its commitment to pushing boundaries in product development and runner experiences. He highlighted that the results through the first three quarters of 2026 reflect the momentum and hard work of teams worldwide, aligning with the brand’s innovative mindset.

FTC targets pricing practices

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has intensified its scrutiny of retail pricing practices, taking significant actions this week. On Monday, the FTC, alongside 20 states, sued Dollar General for alleged deceptive pricing practices, citing consumer complaints about unexpected price increases at checkout. The lawsuit was supported by an undercover investigation into Dollar General’s pricing strategies.

In response, Dollar General affirmed its commitment to pricing accuracy but acknowledged the possibility of occasional discrepancies. The FTC’s focus on pricing transparency extended further on Wednesday, with the agency issuing orders to nine major companies, including Walmart and Target. These orders seek information on how prices may vary based on personal data analysis, particularly through artificial intelligence, raising questions about personalized pricing strategies in the retail industry.
