Engen Offers Free Health Screenings for Truck Drivers

Engen is launching its annual Driver Wellness campaign this October to provide free health screenings for truck drivers across South Africa. The initiative, running from October 19 to mid-November 2026, will operate at 28 Engen Truck Stops and selected Engen 1-Stops nationwide, partnering with Trucking Wellness to deliver professional health checks on-site. Over 1,500 drivers were screened last year across eight provinces during Transport Month, reinforcing Engen’s commitment to supporting the transport sector’s workforce.

The 2026 campaign offers screenings that include blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, malaria, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, and body mass index checks. Each participant will receive a complimentary Engen tog bag. “Truck drivers are the unsung heroes of our highways,” says Anashya Soobhar, Marketing Manager for Engen Commercial. “Their long hours and demanding schedules make campaigns like this essential for their well-being and for road safety.”

According to Tertius Wessels, Project Manager for Trucking Wellness, maintaining driver health is critical for the transport industry’s sustainability. “By bringing wellness services directly to where they work and rest, we can ensure early detection, promote healthier lifestyles, and help keep South Africa’s roads safer,” he explains.

Engen also supports six permanent Trucking Wellness clinics at strategic locations, including Beaufort West Truck Stop in the Western Cape, Winelands 1 Stop North, Musina Gateway Truck Stop in Limpopo, PE Gone South Truck Stop in the Eastern Cape, and two sites in KwaZulu-Natal. These facilities offer ongoing medical care for transport workers beyond the annual campaign.

Truck drivers are encouraged to visit participating Engen sites during October’s Transport Month until mid-November to take advantage of the free health services. The initiative is part of Engen’s broader efforts to prioritize worker safety and health in an industry that transports 90% of South Africa’s goods by road, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the well-being of truck drivers.
