Grocery executives are reshuffling their leadership teams this month, with several major chains announcing new hires and internal promotions in August. The moves come as the industry continues to face shifting consumer habits and the need for operational efficiency.
Albertsons hired Emily Turner as senior vice president and chief marketing officer, giving her control of the company’s enterprise marketing strategy. Turner previously held a top marketing role at The Fresh Market. Her appointment arrives at a time when Albertsons is attempting to stabilize its business and improve its stock performance.
Trader Joe’s also made a key hire, naming Prabash Coswatte as its new chief information officer. Coswatte comes from Heritage Grocers Group, where he most recently served as chief operating officer. He also has experience as the CIO for Cardenas Market, a banner under the same parent company.
In Texas, Brookshire Grocery Company named Jerry LeClair as its permanent chief executive. LeClair has been serving as interim CEO since February. He joined the company in 2019 and brings over four decades of grocery industry experience to the role.
Heritage Grocers Group filled multiple positions in August, appointing four new executives from outside the company. Maria McDonald became chief people officer, Gil Salzar took over as chief information officer, Ryan Adams was named division president for Cardenas Markets and Los Altos Ranch Market, and Jay Sharrock became division president of El Rancho Supermercado. The company also promoted Adrian Castañeda to chief logistics officer and Vince Gambino to chief merchandising officer.
Internal promotions and retirements
Adam Whitney moved into the role of chief operating officer at Festival Foods, a Wisconsin-based chain. Whitney previously served as the company’s chief merchant since January. Before joining Festival Foods in late 2023, he worked at Meijer in various roles, including vice president of fuel and convenience.
Smith’s Food & Drugs, a banner owned by Kroger, named Jordan Poff as its vice president of merchandising. Poff took over the position after serving as vice president of retail operations. He replaced Bryan Sant, who retired at the end of August after a 40-year career.
The Giant Company appointed Jim Saccary as vice president of human resources. Saccary is returning to the chain after previously serving as vice president of business services for parent company Ahold Delhaize USA. He has spent three decades in human resources roles at the banner throughout his career.
Finally, PCC Community Markets announced that Krish Srinivasan will retire from his post as president and CEO in January 2027. Srinivasan has led the Seattle-based cooperative since 2022 and oversaw a financial turnaround during his tenure.
